Choosing a Planner (2:42): The first step is to select a planner template from Planify Pro’s selection. In the video, we went for a weekly dated planner for 2024, but the choice is entirely up to you. Planify Pro offers a wide range of templates, so take your time to browse through and select one that aligns with your vision. Or you can also create an entire planner from scratch!
Page Arrangement (3:50): Once you’ve chosen your template, you’ll need to arrange your pages for KDP export. This might seem like a minor detail, but it’s crucial for the final look of your planner. The first page that appears when you open the KDP book will be on the right side of page one in Planify Pro’s create page. We therefore recommend to mark the left side of page one in Planify Pro with a text sticker that says “Remove this page in the pdf”. You will always have to make sure that the first page in the exported PDF is the one that belongs to the right side. Meaning the that the wider margins on the page which is the inner gutter will have to be on the left side of the paper.
How to Export the Interior (5:21): To export the interior pages, go to save/export. Next select all pages, and select the KDP option. Next select to export the interior pages and click on Batch Generate PDF. Download the PDF file and next remove the first page in the pdf file so that the second page becomes the first page. The margins on the left side should be the inner margins or gutter which should be wider than the outer margins.
Choosing the Size (9:22): You can access all KDP sizes on Planify Pro’s sizing menu under Amazon KDP. You will see both with-bleed and without-bleed size options. Choose between a bleed or no bleed option based on your design. If you have any patterns or stickers that will bleed to the edge of the paper select a with bleed size.
Margins (15:02): Setting the margins for your planner on Planify Pro is an important step. To calculate your outer and inner margins also known as the gutter, visit this page. Once you have set all the margins you then can apply the margins to all the other pages. See the tutorial for this step.
Creating the Cover (21:15): You can choose a premade cover or make your own. The left side of the template is the back cover and the right side will be the front cover. You can calculate the size of the cover here. The Size of the cover will depend on the amount of pages you have. the more pages you have the bigger the cover size will be. Under the sizing menu, select custom size. Next, create a custom size by typing in the height and and for the width, half the with given on the KDP calculator page. Example: If the Cover Width is 12, simply type in 6 inches for the custom size on Planify Pro. (12:2=6).
Exporting the Cover (27:58): Once you’re satisfied with your cover design and you’ve set the correct sizing, it’s time to export it as a PDF file. Open the save/export menu. Select KDP and click on KDP Cover to export. You will end up with two of the same pages. Simply delete the second page in the cover.
Uploading to KDP (29:12): The final step is uploading your book and cover to KDP. This is where your planner comes to life and becomes available to millions of potential customers worldwide. To learn more about uploading your book to Amazon KDP, we recommend checking out a tutorials on Youtube, as well as to learn more about keywords for listing your books.
