DIY Perforated Notepad: How to Make Tear-Off Notepad Pages at Home

How to Make a DIY Perforated Notepad with Tear-Off Pages

This DIY perforated notepad tutorial shows you how to add clean tear-off lines to your handmade notepad using a perforating cutter. Perforated pages let you neatly tear out individual sheets — perfect for grocery lists, task reminders, or notes you want to hand to someone else without ripping the whole pad apart.

Adding perforation to a notepad takes just one extra step compared to a standard PVA-glued pad, but it makes the finished product feel much more professional. A perforated rotary cutter scores tiny evenly-spaced cuts along a line, creating a weakness that tears cleanly when you pull. Combined with PVA glue binding and a chipboard backing, this technique produces notepads that look and function just like store-bought tear-off pads.

In this step-by-step guide, you will learn how to print and trim your notepad inserts, use a perforating cutter to add tear lines at the correct position, stack and clip your pages for gluing, and apply PVA to the spine for a solid binding. The result is a practical, professional notepad you can customize with any design from Planify Pro. Learn more about different binding methods in our complete guide to book binding methods.
